w/ La.Brains

La.Brains is a design pseudonym of Jake LaMothe, a contemporary artist and graphic designer living and working in Metro Detroit. Rooted in abstract, dada-esque expressionism and a deep love for nontraditional type-setting, Jake’s visual-spatial sensibilities and penchant for analog design techniques reopen an intergenerational discourse on the socioeconomic products of mass media. This experiment, in freeing type from the shackles of it’s digital medium, serves to distill the inconspicuous, surface-level expressions of an epoch into an immersive multimedia experience.

We present to you, La.Brains first exhibition, la.saki: a year in review.

Take a deep dive into la.saki with an immersive virtual exploration of curated works by La.Brains.

In prep for the la.saki exhibition, we sat down for an interview with Jake of La.Brains. Along with Will Reese, they talk and discuss La.Brains, his journey thus far as an ANTI artist/designer, and thoughts on his first exhibition.

La.Brains is kindly using la.saki - a year in review to raise money for nox library.

nox library Detroit is a really sweet mutual-aid group that provides literature focusing on labor, class, race, art, and anti imperialism. They frequently post new study groups to join so check them out :) - Jake

nox library is a group of students, workers, and artists working together to build class consciousness in our community (throughout Detroit) and make accessible the necessary tools and resources for communal education. We focus on these topics: labor, class, race, art, anti-imperialism, and proletarian feminism.
